Genna McLaughlin After compiling clips and experience that span seven years, three jobs and numerous publications and clients, Genna McLaughlin launched a freelance writing career in May 2002. Using the business savvy, marketing know-how and writing expertise she accumulated along the way, Genna writes creative nonfiction for magazines and newspapers in the Pittsburgh area and throughout the United States. Her most recent published works include a personal travel essay in the May/June issue of Body & Soul magazine, formerly New Age magazine, and a feature chronicling the resurgence of Easter Passion Plays in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review Sunday Magazine. Genna began writing feature stories for publication while studying English and journalism as an undergraduate at Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Indiana, Pa. During her junior year, she wrote for both the college�s communications department and local newspapers The Indiana Gazette and the Tribune-Review. Following graduation in 1996, she moved to Washington, D.C., where she interned at NBC�s national political unit and at SPACEHAB, Inc., in the communications department. Upon completion of her internships, Genna was hired as a research assistant for NBC�s �Meet The Press.� As such, she gathered information for the moderators and producers of the weekly political talk show as well as for correspondents appearing on �NBC Nightly News� and the �Today� show. In 1997, Genna became a Sunday feature writer for the Tribune-Review in Greensburg, Pa. She wrote health, education, business, industry and people features for the paper before relocating to Pittsburgh as a Public Relations Specialist/Writer at Chatham College in 1999. She was promoted to Director of College Communications in 2000. Genna acquired skills during her career that translate well to both business and creative projects. Directing advertising projects, coordinating special events, interacting with media representatives and editing and writing brochure, news release and newsletter copy have all been part of her extensive experience. Her most recent business clients include Condor Technologies in Pittsburgh and Campus Visit in Boston. Genna is based in Pittsburgh. |
